LEAN WORDPRESS REBUILDS

WordPress, without the bloat.

Most WordPress sites carry a page builder, dozens of plugins and a theme nobody fully understands. They're slow, they break on update, and they get harder to change every year. We rebuild them lean: a hand-coded theme, native blocks, a handful of plugins, and updates that run themselves.

Why most WordPress sites are slow

The typical WordPress site is a bought theme, a page builder and a plugin for every feature. It is the quickest way to get a site live, which is why it is so common.

Then the plugins pile up, each one loading its own scripts and styles on every page. Updates arrive weekly and any one of them can break the layout, so they get postponed. The site slows down, the admin gets clumsy, and the PHP version falls behind.

Eventually nobody wants to touch it. That is usually the point where a business asks for a new website. What it needs is the same website, built properly.

Sound familiar?

  • Updates you put off because the last one broke something
  • A page builder that turns small changes into slow ones
  • Thirty or more plugins, and nobody is sure what half of them do
  • A mobile PageSpeed score under 50
  • A PHP version that is no longer supported

Any one of these is reason enough for a free speed and health check.

How we build WordPress

Same WordPress, same admin, same login. Everything underneath it is different.

BeforeMost WordPress sites
AfterRebuilt lean
Theme
Bought off the shelf and customised over the years.
Hand-coded for your site. Visitors only download what the page needs.
Editing
A page builder with its own scripts, styles and shortcodes on every page.
Native WordPress blocks. No builder, no shortcodes, layouts that stay consistent.
Plugins
Thirty or more. One for every feature, each loading on every visit.
A handful, each one justified. Anything the theme can do, the theme does.
Updates
Manual. Postponed because the last one broke something.
Automatic and monitored. If one fails, the site rolls back and we look at why.
Hosting
Whatever the site started on, years ago.
Cape Frisco managed servers, tuned for WordPress, with backups and SSL as standard.

What a rebuild covers

A rebuild is scoped per site. These are the parts every one includes.

Custom theme

Hand-coded for your brand and your content. No theme framework, no builder, no unused code.

Native block patterns

Your page layouts rebuilt as WordPress blocks, so you edit in the standard editor and pages stay consistent.

Content migration

Pages, posts, images and products moved across and checked page by page.

Plugin audit

Every plugin reviewed. What does real work stays, what the theme can do is built in, the rest goes.

SEO and URLs preserved

Same addresses, redirects where anything moves, metadata and structured data carried over.

Forms and integrations

Contact forms, newsletter signups, bookings and payment gateways rebuilt and tested before go-live.

Hosting move

Set up on our managed servers with SSL, caching and backups configured before the switch.

Go-live checks

PageSpeed, mobile, accessibility, broken links and a final walkthrough with you.

Updates that just work

Manual updates get postponed, and postponed updates are how sites get hacked. On a lean build they run on their own.

Automatic core and plugin updates

WordPress and its plugins update on a schedule we control. With a handful of plugins and no builder, there is very little left to conflict.

Monitored, with rollback

Every update is checked afterwards. If anything fails, the site is restored to the previous version and we look at why before it goes out again.

A developer, not a helpdesk

When you need a change, you talk to the person who built the site. No ticket queue, no account-manager relay.

Fast, clean sites get found.

Google ranks faster sites higher, and AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini favour sites that load quickly and are simple to read. A slow site loses rankings, visitors and visibility.

A lean site is also a smaller target. Fewer plugins mean fewer vulnerabilities and fewer emergency patches. And a site built from standard WordPress blocks will still be editable, and still be supported, for years to come.

What people ask us

Will it still be WordPress?

Yes. Same WordPress, same admin, same login. What changes is what's underneath it: the theme, the plugin set, the hosting and how updates happen.

Can I still edit pages myself?

Yes. You edit with the standard WordPress block editor. It's simpler than a page builder, and your layouts stay consistent because they're built into the theme rather than assembled on each page.

What happens to my SEO, URLs and forms?

They stay. We keep every address, redirect anything that has to move, carry over metadata and structured data, and rebuild every form and integration before go-live.

Which plugins stay?

The ones doing real work. Typically SEO, forms, and e-commerce if you sell online. Anything that can be done in the theme is built into the theme instead.

What if an update breaks something?

Updates are monitored and the site rolls back automatically if one fails. We then look at why before it goes out again. On a lean build this is rare, because there is very little to conflict.

How long does it take, and what does it cost?

It depends on the site: how many page types, which integrations, whether there's a shop. The free speed and health check gives us what we need to scope it, and you get a written proposal before anything starts.

Do I have to move hosting?

A rebuild includes a move to our managed WordPress hosting. The automatic updates, monitoring and rollback depend on it, so it's part of the offer rather than an add-on.
