E-commerce

Online shops that load fast, including the checkout.

We provide e-commerce website development on WooCommerce, Shopify or Magento. We set up South African and international payment gateways, subscriptions and clean product data. Each shop is built to stay quick on a phone, and the people who built it maintain it.

Our view

Slow online shops lose sales

Most online shops start with a theme, a few extensions and a payment plugin. Over time, the shop gains reviews, filters, pop-ups and tracking scripts, and each one loads on every page. As the catalogue grows, the checkout slows down. Customers on phones notice the delay most.

We build shops in the same way as our other websites. We write only the code the shop needs. Product pages load quickly, the checkout has as few steps as possible, and payments go through gateways your customers already know.

We also recommend a platform. That may be WooCommerce on a site you already run, Shopify, or a larger Magento store. The choice depends on your catalogue, your team and how you sell.

What we build

Shops, payment gateways and product data

We scope each shop separately. These are the services clients ask for most often.

  • WooCommerce shops

We build the shop into a minimal WordPress site with a hand-coded theme. We install only the extensions the shop uses.

  • Shopify and Magento

Shopify suits businesses that want a hosted platform their team can run. Magento suits large catalogues and complex pricing. On both, we keep apps and extensions to a minimum.

  • Payment gateways

We set up PayFast, Yoco, Stripe and PayPal to match how your customers pay. We test each gateway end to end before launch.

  • Subscriptions and memberships

We set up recurring payments, memberships and repeat orders. These include renewals, follow-ups on failed payments and accounts that customers manage themselves.

  • Product data

We import and clean products, variations, stock and pricing. We keep them synchronised with your stock system, supplier feeds or ERP.

  • Checkout speed

We keep product and checkout pages small and size images correctly. We set up caching that speeds up the shop without breaking the cart.

How it works

From catalogue to first order

Shops have more components than most websites. We test every part that handles payments before the shop goes live.

  1. Scope

We look at your products, how you sell, which gateways and couriers you need and what the shop connects to. You get a written proposal before any work starts.

  2. Build

We build the shop, then import and check your product data. We set up payments, shipping rules, VAT and order emails to match how you trade.

  3. Test

We test every gateway end to end and follow test orders through to stock, invoices and emails. We also measure the checkout on mobile.

  4. Launch and run

We host and monitor the shop, keep the platform and extensions up to date, and make changes when you need them.

Standard on every shop

  • SSL across the whole shop
  • Card details handled by the payment gateway and never stored in the shop
  • Mobile-first product and checkout pages
  • Optimised product images
  • Structured product data for search
  • Order and stock emails tested
  • Monitoring and automated backups
  • POPIA-aware handling of customer data

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should we use WooCommerce, Shopify or Magento?
The choice depends on your catalogue, your team and how much control you want. WooCommerce suits businesses that already run WordPress or want full control over the shop. Shopify suits teams who want a hosted platform they can run themselves. Magento suits large catalogues and complex pricing. We will recommend one and explain why.
Which payment gateways do you work with?
We work with PayFast, Yoco, Stripe and PayPal, among others. For South African customers, a local gateway such as PayFast or Yoco is usually the first choice. Stripe and PayPal suit international sales and businesses trading from the UK, Europe or the USA. Many shops offer more than one gateway.
Can you take over a shop we didn't build with you?
Yes. We start by reviewing the platform, extensions, product data and hosting, and we tell you what we find. A few fixes may be enough. In other cases, the shop is better rebuilt, keeping your products, customers and URLs. For a WooCommerce shop, a lean WordPress rebuild is often the first step.
Can you migrate our products, customers and orders?
Yes. We can move products, variations, images, customers and order history between platforms. We clean the data during the move and check it before launch. Customer passwords usually cannot be transferred between different platforms, so customers may need to set a new one. Before the migration, we tell you what will move and what will not.
Do you build subscription shops?
Yes. We build shops with recurring payments, memberships, subscription boxes and repeat orders. Gateways handle recurring billing in different ways, so we plan the subscriptions at the same time as we choose the gateway.
Who hosts and looks after the shop?
WooCommerce and Magento shops can run on our managed hosting, where we handle monitoring, backups and updates. Shopify hosts Shopify stores, and we look after the theme, apps and integrations. In both cases, we make the changes you need and test them before they go live.
