Hosting & managed servers

Managed website hosting that is fast, secure and dependable.

We set up, harden and monitor our servers ourselves, with backups, SSL and security scanning as standard. We monitor every server 24 hours a day and act as soon as something needs attention.

Our view

Your server affects how your site performs

A website's speed and security depend on the server it runs on. An overloaded shared server, an old PHP version or missing caching will limit the performance of even a well-built site. Nobody notices the problem until the site slows down or something breaks.

We host the sites we build, and many sites we did not build, on servers we configure and maintain ourselves. Our servers are in several countries, and we usually host each site close to its customers. In total, we manage more than 200 sites. We monitor them 24 hours a day, and they have 99.9% uptime.

Hosting with us also means someone is responsible for your site. We apply and check updates, and backups run automatically. When something needs attention, we deal with it.

What we do

Hosting, servers and security

We host everything from a single website to dedicated servers, and we configure each server for the software it runs.

  • Managed website hosting

We host websites and WordPress on servers configured for them. Each site has SSL, server-side caching and Cloudflare for speed and protection.

  • Our servers, your cloud or your own

We host on our own servers, in your AWS or Google Cloud account, or on your company’s own infrastructure. Wherever it runs, we set it up, patch it and monitor it.

  • Updates with rollback

On the sites we build, updates run automatically and are checked afterwards. If an update fails, the site is restored, and we find the cause before we apply the update again.

  • Monitoring and backups

We monitor uptime and server health 24 hours a day and run automated backups. If a problem occurs, we can restore the site from a backup.

  • Security hardening and testing

We set up firewalls, malware scanning, security headers and restricted access. Penetration testing finds security vulnerabilities so that we can fix them.

  • Malware clean-up

If your site has been hacked, we remove the malware and find out how the attacker got access. We then fix that vulnerability and harden the site against another attack of the same kind.

How it works

Moving your site to us

Most of the sites we host were previously with another host. We plan the move so that your visitors notice as little as possible.

  1. Review

We review the site, its platform, its traffic and the systems it connects to. We tell you what we find, including anything to fix before the move.

  2. Set up

We configure the server for your platform. We set up SSL, caching, Cloudflare and backups before we switch anything over.

  3. Move and check

We copy the site to the new server and test it there. We switch DNS at a time of low traffic, then check everything again once the site is live.

  4. Look after it

From then on, we run monitoring, updates and backups, and we act as soon as something needs attention.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where are your servers?
We host in several countries, including South Africa, and choose the location for each site based on where its customers are. Cloudflare then serves copies of the pages to visitors in other countries. If your site stores personal information, the location also matters for POPIA and other privacy laws, and we take that into account.
Can you manage hosting in our own cloud account or on our own servers?
Yes. We can run your site in your own AWS or Google Cloud account, with another cloud provider, or on servers your company owns or rents. You keep ownership of the account and the data, and we set up, secure, update and monitor the site the same way we do on our own servers.
Can you host a site you didn't build?
Yes. Many of the sites we host were built elsewhere. We review each site first, because some sites need work before they are worth moving. We tell you what we find before anything changes.
What happens if an update breaks something?
On the sites we build, updates are checked after they run, and the site rolls back automatically if an update fails. We then find the cause before we apply the update again. On older sites with a page builder and many plugins, we agree an update routine that suits the site. We explain the risk to you. A lean rebuild removes most of that risk.
Our site has been hacked. Can you help?
Yes. Contact us and describe what you are seeing. We remove the malware and find out how the attacker got access. We then fix that vulnerability and harden the site against another attack of the same kind. If the site uses a page builder and many outdated plugins, we may recommend rebuilding it instead of patching it again.
Do we need a penetration test?
A penetration test is a controlled attempt to break into your site or server using the methods an attacker would use. It finds vulnerabilities so that they can be fixed before an attacker finds them. We recommend one for sites that handle logins, payments or personal information, and after major changes. For a simple brochure site, hardening and monitoring are usually enough, and we will tell you so.
Why Cloudflare?
Cloudflare runs between your visitors and your server. It serves cached pages from locations close to your visitors, which helps if you have customers abroad. It also blocks a lot of malicious traffic before it reaches the server. We set up and manage Cloudflare as part of the hosting.
Who do we contact when something goes wrong?
Contact us by email or through the website. Our technical team handles the problem, and we tell you what happened and what we changed.
