Free speed check
Check your website speed.
Why it matters
Why website speed matters.
A slow site has two effects. Visitors leave before it loads, and search engines and AI assistants rank it lower.
Rankings
Google uses page experience, including Core Web Vitals, as a ranking signal. Faster sites have an edge.
Visitors
Most visits start on a phone. The longer a page takes to load, the more visitors go back to the search results.
AI assistants
ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini also read websites. Fast pages with clean code are easier for them to read and recommend.
Beyond speed
What search engines and AI assistants check besides speed.
A fast site keeps visitors on the page. To recommend your business, Google and AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini also need to read your pages, understand them and trust what they say.
They can read your pages
- Crawler accessYour robots.txt file and firewall settings allow search and AI crawlers to read the site. Some security settings block AI crawlers without the site owner knowing.
- Content in the HTMLYour text is in the page itself. Many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so text that only appears after scripts run can be missed.
- An XML sitemapA list of every page you want found, so crawlers do not depend on following links.
- Clean addressesEach page has one address. Moved pages redirect permanently, and broken links are fixed.
They understand what you offer
- Structured dataSchema.org markup that states your business details, services, FAQs and articles in a form machines read directly.
- Clear structureOne main heading per page, logical subheadings, and a unique title and description for each page.
- Described images and formsAlt text and labels help screen readers, and they help search engines and AI tools understand the page.
- Answers to real questionsPages that answer what your customers ask. AI assistants quote pages that answer a question clearly.
They trust the information
- HTTPS and a mobile layoutGoogle indexes the mobile version of your site and expects a secure connection.
- Real-visitor performanceGoogle ranks with Core Web Vitals measured from real Chrome visitors, so the site must stay fast after launch.
- Consistent business detailsYour name, location and contact details match on your site and your Google Business Profile.
- Current contentAI assistants repeat what they read. Remove old prices, former staff and services you no longer offer.

About the speed check
What does this test?
Why do scores change between runs?
My site feels fast. Why is the score low?
The test loads your site on a simulated mid-range phone over a slow 4G connection, with a slower processor than most office computers. This is deliberate, because it is closer to what many visitors and Google’s mobile ranking experience. Your own visits are also faster because your browser has already stored parts of the site.
The score also measures more than how quickly the page appears. It includes how long the page is busy before you can use it, and whether content moves while it loads. For ranking, Google uses data from real Chrome visitors, shown as Core Web Vitals at the top of the full PageSpeed report. The lab score helps you find the causes.
Speed is also only one of the technical factors that search engines and AI assistants use. See the other checks they make.
Do you store my results?
We can fix what the test finds.
Most slow sites have a small number of causes. We find and fix them, or rebuild the site if that is the better option.
